Several voters from Kotia, a cluster of villages whose control has been disputed by the Indian states of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh since the 1950s, crossed into Andhra Pradesh on Thursday to vote in its local council elections. Odisha had deployed 16 platoons of police and set up three border checkpoints, and political parties in the state had prevented Andhra Pradesh from placing a polling booth inside Odisha, so one was set up at Sariki on the Andhra side. Odisha politicians from Congress and the BJD accused Andhra Pradesh leaders of bribing villagers for their votes. The Hindu quotes a local official as saying that villagers did cross the border, but that she could not confirm whether they had voted.
