Ghana’s vice-president urges jobs for One Million Coders graduates

·

Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Ghana's Vice-President, has urged the creation of practical job opportunities for graduates of the government's One Million Coders Programme, so that their new digital skills lead to employment, businesses and new products. Opening the 15th Africa Internet Governance Forum in Accra on Tuesday, she said thousands of young Ghanaians had completed courses and that partnerships with universities were extending the training, but that training alone was not enough. She also urged more attention to small businesses, farmers, traders and informal workers, and said closing the digital divide meant making internet access affordable as well as expanding coverage. According to the report carried by AllAfrica, she said the government had begun building public sector skills under the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy launched by President Mahama.
