The Democratic Alliance is projected to take 79.4 per cent of the vote in Johannesburg's Ward 90, the Hyde Park ward where President Cyril Ramaphosa and EFF leader Julius Malema both live, according to provisional local election results. The ANC was on 4.6 per cent and the EFF on 2.3 per cent in the ward. Daily Maverick reports that high turnout in the suburbs helped the DA's gains across the city, but that no party is expected to win an outright majority in Johannesburg, leaving coalition talks due to begin within days. ActionSA, which said it had won 55 wards, has been approached by both the ANC and the DA, placing it in a kingmaker role. Either the DA's Helen Zille or ActionSA's Herman Mashaba could become mayor.
