The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has reversed its decision to move the Africa Cup of Nations to a four-year cycle, so the tournament will continue to be held every two years, Africanews reports.
Earlier this month CAF announced a new biennial competition, the Africa Nations League, and said the Cup of Nations would be played every four years to fit better with the European club calendar. In announcing the U-turn, CAF said the league would take several years to bring in the large sums needed to make African competitions and football globally competitive and self-supporting.
The two-year cycle has long caused clashes with the international football calendar. Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda will jointly host the next tournament in 2027.
