The Pachuca forward Charlyn Corral has been named the best women's striker of the year at the Ballon d'Or ceremony in London, becoming the first Mexican woman to receive the Gerd Müller Trophy, Mexico News Daily reports.
Corral, 35, scored 49 goals in 49 games for Pachuca and Mexico's national team. Only one woman had won the award before her, Poland's Ewa Pajor in 2025. Harry Kane of Bayern Munich took the men's prize and the Ballon d'Or itself.
In her acceptance speech at the London Palladium, Corral said more than 20 years of hard work had paid off, and she praised Mexico's backing for the women's game. She also asked the audience to recognise Scarlett Camberos of Club América, who was among the 30 nominees for the main award.
