Denmark’s new work permit lowers salary threshold for jobs under union agreements

·

Denmark has introduced a work permit route that lets employers hire workers from 16 non-EU countries on much lower salaries than the usual threshold, provided the job is covered by a collective agreement with a Danish union, The Local Denmark reports. The minimum annual pay falls from 552,000 kroner to about 322,000 kroner, and the role does not need to appear on a shortage list.

Eligible countries include the USA, the UK, China, Japan, India, Canada, Australia and Ukraine, chosen mainly on investment ties with Denmark, and the immigration ministry will update the list over time. The scheme was championed by the Moderate Party and business groups from 2023 and was finally passed by parliament on 3 September after being delayed by February's general election.
