Ontario Premier Doug Ford has said he would back ending the twice-yearly clock change, but only if Quebec and neighbouring parts of the United States do the same, Global News reports. Ford said that if Quebec, New York and the eastern US corridor wanted to make the switch, he would be fully on board, adding that he was open to talks with Quebec's premier.
Quebec Premier Paul St-Pierre Plamondon said last month that his province plans to scrap seasonal time changes, though it has not decided whether to keep daylight or standard time all year. Ford suggested Quebec had since stepped back. The debate has returned to Ontario after Alberta, Manitoba, the Northwest Territories and British Columbia all chose this year to stay on daylight time permanently. Ontario has already allowed areas west of the 90th meridian to follow Manitoba.
