Eleven Ukrainian citizens, among them a 96-year-old woman and her injured son, have returned to government-controlled territory from Russian-occupied areas, Ukraine's human rights ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets said, according to the Kyiv Independent. The woman and her son came from the occupied village of Tavriiske in Kherson Oblast; he had lost an eye and been badly hurt in a Russian air attack in September while caring for her. Another returnee was a man from occupied Luhansk who had suffered three heart attacks and needed specialised transport. Such evacuations usually pass through a humanitarian corridor in Volyn Oblast, the only working crossing between Ukraine and Belarus, as there are no functioning checkpoints on the Russian border. Separately, the charity Save Ukraine said 33 children had been returned from occupied territories in the week to 11 October.
