President Donald Trump says he will close East Potomac Golf Course, a historic public course near the White House, for 15 months from 15 November so it can be redeveloped, PBS NewsHour reports, citing the Associated Press. In a social media post with an artist's impression, Trump said the course would remain open to the public once finished and be able to host major tournaments such as the US Open and the Ryder Cup. His post did not mention a continuing legal challenge: last week a judge halted the redevelopment until at least 26 October, criticising the government for beginning large-scale tree felling over a holiday weekend with little notice. Democracy Forward, which represents the plaintiffs, said the course is part of a national park meant for everyone and vowed to keep fighting the plans.
