Mexican soldiers have arrested five suspected members of the Los Chapitos faction of the Sinaloa Cartel in two operations on Friday and Saturday, Mexico News Daily reports, seizing weapons, a vehicle and tactical equipment.
Among them is Jesús Abraham "N", known as "El Talibán", who is described as a trusted associate of a regional Los Chapitos leader in southern Sinaloa. The other four, including a Colombian national, were detained in El Rosario and are said by the defence ministry to be bodyguards of an alleged cell leader.
The suspects are linked to the January kidnapping of ten employees of the Canadian mining company Vizsla Silver in Concordia, Sinaloa, and to the abduction of four tourists in Mazatlán in February. Los Chapitos are accused of seizing the miners after mistaking them for members of the rival Los Mayos group. Nine have been found dead and one remains missing.
