Boland takes four wickets as Australia stay on top in rain-hit Gqeberha Test

·

Scott Boland took four wickets for 31 runs to keep Australia firmly in control of the rain-affected second Test against South Africa in Gqeberha, ABC News reports.

Play at St George's Park did not resume until 3.45pm local time on day two because of a waterlogged outfield. Boland struck within ten minutes, removing debutant opener Marques Ackerman, and Mitchell Starc then dismissed Matthew Breetzke to leave South Africa on 4-40. Captain Temba Bavuma and Ryan Rickelton steadied the innings with a half-century stand, helped when Marnus Labuschagne dropped Rickelton, before Boland had him caught by Matt Renshaw at first slip.

South Africa closed on 5-97 from the 43 overs possible so far. Josh Hazlewood missed the day through illness, and Cricket Australia says he will return on day three.
