Erin Patterson to learn outcome of mushroom murders appeals on Friday

·

Victoria's Court of Appeal will rule on Friday on two appeals in the case of Erin Patterson, who was jailed for life for murdering three relatives with a beef Wellington containing death cap mushrooms, The Guardian Australia reports.

Patterson, 52, is appealing against her convictions for murdering Don and Gail Patterson and Heather Wilkinson and attempting to murder Ian Wilkinson. Prosecutors are separately appealing against her sentence of life with a non-parole period of 33 years, arguing it was manifestly inadequate.

At hearings in August her lawyers put forward seven grounds, including that letting jurors stay in the same hotel as police and prosecutors during deliberations was a fundamental failure that denied her a fair trial. The outcome could range from a retrial to a longer minimum term. Patterson is not expected to attend in person.
