Five people, including an 11-year-old boy, were killed on Sunday morning when their car collided head-on with a state transport bus in Beed district, in the Indian state of Maharashtra, The Hindu reports, citing police. The crash happened at about 11am on the Khamgaon-Pandharpur national highway in Majalgaon tehsil. Officials said CCTV footage showed the car, travelling at speed towards Tuljapur, losing control as the driver tried to avoid potholes on a bridge. All five occupants, who were from Majalgaon, died at the scene. The accident prompted local residents to block the highway for several hours, accusing the authorities of poor construction and maintenance on the stretch, until senior police and district officials arrived to calm the protest and reopen the road.
