Iran has deliberately drawn out its negotiations with Washington in an effort to weaken President Donald Trump politically before next month's US midterm elections, senior Iranian officials have said, according to a Reuters report published by The Japan Times.
Three senior officials and an insider, all speaking anonymously, said Tehran believed Trump was prepared to order fresh strikes to break the stalemate in the eight-month war, and that deep distrust of Washington had made Iran reluctant to agree a quick deal to end the fighting. One official said Iran was preparing for renewed Israeli and US attacks rather than an agreement, and that the clerical leadership was determined to deny Trump a political victory.
