A custody photo of Iraqi-Australian crime boss Kazem Hamad released by Iraqi authorities and shared by Australian police appeared to show him nearly nine feet tall, prompting ridicule and fresh questions, The National reports.
The height chart used mangled imperial numbers Iraq does not use, and a second image looked different. Australian Federal Police said Iraq supplied the pictures. The Sydney Morning Herald cited a source alleging the photo was altered to hide abuse in custody; Iraq declined to comment.
Hamad, deported from Australia in 2023, received a life sentence in Iraq in July for drug trafficking and is described by Baghdad as linked to murder, kidnapping and money-laundering gangs.
