Israeli forces arrest 36 Palestinians in West Bank raids as olive harvest attacks rise

·

Israeli forces arrested 36 Palestinians in raids across the occupied West Bank on Thursday, Al Jazeera reports, citing the Palestinian news agency Wafa and other Palestinian bodies. Ten were detained in Jenin governorate and more than 20 across Hebron governorate, including 14 in Khirbet Jawaya in Masafer Yatta, with further arrests near Nablus and Jerusalem.

The Palestinian Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission said it recorded 17 attacks by Israeli forces and settlers on farmers and their land that day during the olive harvest, across six governorates. It said these included assaults, blocking access to land, theft of crops and equipment, burning of olive trees, threats at gunpoint and live fire, and described the pattern as an escalation.

On Wednesday, US congressional candidate Brad Lander was briefly detained while helping Palestinian farmers with the harvest.
