A 40-year-old man has been charged after a woman was allegedly attacked while out walking in Stanmore Bay, north of Auckland, early on Thursday, the NZ Herald reports.
Police said the woman was on D'Oyly Drive at about 5.24am when a man crossed the road, grabbed her by the arms and stopped her moving away. She managed to break free and ran, and police allege he chased her.
Later that morning, officers making inquiries in the area saw a man matching her description, who tried to avoid them by going into a driveway. He was arrested after a short struggle.
He is due in the North Shore District Court on five charges, including assault with intent to injure, resisting police, assaulting a first responder and possessing methamphetamine utensils.
