Mother of Arizona toddler found alive in hospital morgue speaks out

·

The mother of an 18-month-old boy who was found alive in an Arizona hospital morgue more than five hours after being declared dead has spoken out about the ordeal, NBC News reports.

Alexus Fiordilino said she thought she heard her son Vincent breathing when she said goodbye, but trusted the doctor who told her further efforts would only prolong his suffering. The boy had nearly drowned in the family pool on 8 February and was pronounced dead at Mercy Gilbert Medical Center. A medical examiner's worker later found he was alive.

The family's lawyer said he would file a complaint against the doctor and the hospital, arguing test results cited to stop resuscitation came back only after the death was declared. The doctor's lawyer and the hospital issued sympathetic statements. Prosecutors decided in July not to charge the parents.
