Elon Musk ordered a slowdown of the Starlink satellite service that Ukraine's armed forces rely on, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal carried by Daily Maverick via Reuters, which said it could not immediately verify the claim. Ukraine uses Starlink for battlefield communications and drone operations, and the restrictions hampered its attack and air defence drone missions.
The report said Musk and President Donald Trump discussed the decision in a call after the slowdown became public, and had also talked about it beforehand. Reuters had earlier reported that the order to limit the system came from inside the White House. Trump has said he did not believe either he or Musk was responsible, while Musk has said limits were set by the US military or the president. Musk, SpaceX and the White House did not immediately comment.
