The organisers of the 2029 Alpine World Ski Championships in Narvik have pulled out of hosting a women's World Cup race planned for March 2027, Norwegian broadcaster NRK reports. The board of Narvik 2029 said the risk of staging an event on a brand-new course that early was too great.
The decision follows an inspection by the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) on 8 and 9 October, when its race director, Peter Gerdol, said nothing at the site was ready. The slope, snowmaking, lift and safety work were all still outstanding. Gerdol said he respected the decision and was not worried about the 2029 championships, and the Norwegian Ski Federation said it would look at moving the race elsewhere. NRK's alpine expert has warned that losing test events could affect preparations.
