Russia has built an extra ring of air defence towers around Vladimir Putin's residence at Valdai in Novgorod region, according to analysis by Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty and an open-source analyst, the Kyiv Independent reports.
Satellite imagery suggests about 16 new short-range towers went up in September within roughly 50km of the residence, bringing the total protecting the area to around 50, though the analyst said the towers are not yet confirmed. The new perimeter reportedly takes in the Khotilovo military airbase, which Putin is said to use regularly, and a laboratory complex on Lisiy Island.
The Kremlin claimed last December that Ukraine attacked the Valdai residence with drones. Kyiv denied it, and US intelligence later reportedly assessed that Ukraine had struck a military site elsewhere in the region.
