The Nigeria Labour Congress's Federal Capital Territory council has suspended the indefinite strike it began on 7 October and told workers, particularly primary and secondary school teachers, to return on Wednesday, Premium Times reports. Council chairman Knabayi Adalo announced the decision in Abuja on Tuesday after talks with the teachers' union, the FCT administration and the federal labour ministry.
The agreement covers promotion vacancies for education officers, a new date for the 2025 promotion exam, and a pause on moving teachers affected by the harmonised retirement age back into classrooms. Adalo said a committee would monitor the deal and that the strike would resume without notice if the authorities failed to honour it. He said workers had been assured that nobody would be punished for taking part in the action.
