The Federal High Court in Abuja has struck out cybercrime charges against Sanusi Dankaka, a man accused of threatening to publish nude images of the Kano State governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, Premium Times reports.
Judge Salim Ibrahim ended the case after the prosecution applied to withdraw the charges, which the defence did not oppose. No reason was given for the withdrawal. The trial had been due to begin in December after Dankaka pleaded not guilty, but the case was brought forward and listed on Tuesday.
The State Security Service had filed two counts under Nigeria's 2015 Cybercrimes Act on 22 October, alleging that Dankaka and others still at large claimed on Facebook to hold intimate videos and photographs of the governor and circulated a malicious publication saying so.
