Nigeria’s Kaduna-Kano standard-gauge railway is scheduled to open on 3 December, Premium Times reports, citing the All Progressives Congress presidential campaign council. Spokesperson Dele Alake said the 203-kilometre Kaduna-Zaria-Kano line had reached about 90 per cent completion, while the separate 400-kilometre Kano-Katsina-Maradi project stood at about 70 per cent. The council said both lines were far less advanced when President Bola Tinubu took office in 2023. The Kaduna-Kano railway would extend the existing Abuja-Kaduna line, creating a continuous rail link between Abuja, Kaduna, Zaria and Kano. A government inspection team recently ran a test train from Jaji in Kaduna State to Kano. The council said the finished 190-kilometre Jaji-Kano section and a 250-kilometre stretch of the Kano-Maradi line would be opened on 3 December.
