Norwegian soldiers in Finnmark are adapting Ukraine battlefield drone lessons to Arctic conditions about 200 kilometres from the Russian border, broadcaster NRK reports from the Porsangmoen training area.
Troop commander Erik Frisell Krattum said operators work from a concealed basement, an approach drawn from Ukraine to improve camouflage and cover. Norway has signed a drone cooperation deal with Ukraine and proposed 100 million kroner for a new drone programme next year; defence minister Tore O. Sandvik said drone defence already protects key bases and will expand.
Deputy brigade commander Ronny Bratli cautioned that Ukraine lessons must fit Norway threat and climate. Government strategy notes icing, wind and winter can cut small-drone availability to about 40 to 60 percent, so the army is testing kit where troops would actually fight.
