Anita Leirvik North of the Conservative party (Høyre) has resigned with immediate effect from Oslo's city government after weeks of criticism over the closure of a swimming pool in the west of the city, NRK reports.
The Greens (MDG) tabled a motion of no confidence against her last week over her handling of Røabadet while she was responsible for culture, sport and business until May. The privately owned pool shut its doors to the public and schools before the summer after the city was slow to renew an access agreement, leaving western Oslo without a public pool.
In a statement, Leirvik North said she would not stand in the 2027 election and that reading false claims about herself as a mother of two had weighed on her decision. City government leader Eirik Lae Solberg called her departure a loss. She survived a previous confidence vote two years ago.
