Pakistan's army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, has arrived in Tehran for talks with senior Iranian officials as efforts to end the war between Iran and the United States remain stuck, The National reports.
Pakistan has been a key go-between for Washington and Tehran, and Iranian state news agency Irna said the visit would cover efforts to resolve the conflict. Qatar, also a mediator, said contacts between the two sides had not stopped, but warned Iran that threats to undersea internet cables in the Strait of Hormuz, along with mines and oil spills, would hurt the whole region.
The trip follows reports that Iranian officials are deliberately dragging out negotiations to damage Donald Trump before November's midterms. Tehran wants its conditions for reopening the strait, including an end to the US naval blockade and the release of frozen assets, met before any nuclear talks.
