Update: Spain condemns Milei after he calls Sánchez a ‘dictator’ in Madrid

·

Spain's Foreign Ministry has accused Argentina's President Javier Milei of interference and insults after he attacked Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez during a visit to Madrid, the Buenos Aires Times reports, citing AFP.

Speaking at an economic forum in the Spanish capital on Wednesday, Mr Milei called Mr Sánchez a dictator, a thief and corrupt, and urged Spaniards to vote the Socialists out at the general election on 29 November.

In a statement, the ministry said it condemned the remarks and what it called a call for violence, adding that Spain would not accept outside meddling in its democratic institutions. It said it was shameful for the head of state of a sister nation to visit Spain with the aim of stirring polarisation. Mr Milei had arrived in Madrid earlier in the week but had said he would not meet Mr Sánchez.
