Indian and Chinese troops are still confronting each other at several points along the border in Arunachal Pradesh, the director general of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police, Shatrujeet Kapur, said on Thursday, The Hindu reports.
The paper says it is the first official confirmation of the scale of tensions on the north-eastern frontier since July. Government sources told it that Chinese troops have pitched tents about 6-7km inside India's view of the Line of Actual Control near Taksing, in Upper Subansiri district, after a patrol encounter that month.
The stand-off has continued despite Xi Jinping's attendance at the BRICS summit in India in September and three rounds of high-level border talks. Kapur also called for more investment in drones and said border posts would get underground shelters within three years.
