Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz has resigned as a minister and as leader of Poland 2050, a junior partner in Donald Tusk's governing coalition, Notes from Poland reports.
Her decision followed a vote in the Sejm on Thursday on a bill from the Polish People's Party to scrap the two-term limit for mayors. The bill was narrowly defeated by 215 votes to 213 after 15 coalition MPs sided with the opposition. Pełczyńska-Nałęcz opposed the bill but criticised coalition colleagues, including many from her own party, for backing it.
Poland 2050 will stay in government, so Tusk keeps his majority. Speaking during a visit to India, the prime minister said working with her had not been easy and that he did not expect her departure to affect the coalition, a year before parliamentary elections.
