Police forces and fire services in several parts of the UK are preparing for possible trouble on Bonfire Night, with firefighters voicing concern about rising attacks on crews and stretched resources, The Guardian reports. In the days before 5 November, officers in a number of towns and cities have already used dispersal orders against groups setting off fireworks in public.
Seven people were arrested in Birmingham after fireworks were let off in the city centre at Halloween. Scotland is mounting its largest policing operation since last year's visit by Donald Trump, with public order vehicles borrowed from English and Welsh forces, firework control zones in parts of Edinburgh and Glasgow, and rumours of far-right protest activity. In West Yorkshire, police have seized 30 tonnes of illegal fireworks in Bradford and Halifax, and extra officers will be on patrol.
