Russia's Industry and Trade Ministry has recommended that cafes, restaurants, hotels, resorts and boarding houses serving breakfast offer a separate "Russian breakfast" option, independent outlet Meduza reports, citing the state news agency TASS.
The ministry said it would create a dedicated emblem for the new menu item and has told regional and municipal authorities to carry out the work. Restaurants specialising in other national cuisines are not expected to take part.
Officials insist the scheme does not mean forcing businesses to change their menus. Instead, local authorities are expected to persuade owners of the benefits, including the financial advantages, of adding the category.
The ministry did not say which dishes would make up a Russian breakfast or when it hopes the recommendation will be widely adopted.
