Ukraine's General Staff says its forces struck the Energia plant in the Russian city of Yelets, describing it as Russia's only maker of batteries for glide bomb guidance kits, The Kyiv Independent reports.
The military said the factory, about 250km from the Ukrainian border, also supplies batteries for Iskander-M ballistic missiles and sea-launched cruise missiles, and that the attack would hamper Russian weapons production. It did not say what weapons were used or how much damage was caused. A Ukrainian monitoring channel had reported smoke over the site on Sunday afternoon.
The General Staff also claimed Ukraine had destroyed a microchip workshop at a plant in Orel on 23 October. Russia's defence ministry has not commented, and the outlet said it could not verify the claims. Independent Russian outlet Astra separately reported a likely drone strike on a chemical plant in Voronezh on Monday.
