A manhunt is under way in Tennessee after a man serving a life term for murder broke out of a prison late on Sunday, The Guardian reports.
The Tennessee Department of Correction said Jacob Morley, 28, fled the Northwest Correctional Complex, a state prison in Tiptonville. Local outlets reported that staff realised he was missing at about 11.30pm, and that surveillance footage showed him breaching the perimeter fence while wearing his prison uniform.
Morley was jailed for life for the 2022 murder of Cody Birchfield, a Tennessee man first reported missing in February that year.
The department warned the public not to try to detain him and asked anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact it.
The escape comes more than a year after ten detainees broke out of a New Orleans jail through a hole behind a toilet. All of them have since been recaptured.
