A couple living opposite the proposed site of a ferris wheel on Auckland's waterfront have raised concerns about its effect on their views, as well as noise, pollution and earthquake risk, RNZ reports.
Skyline Attractions applied on 16 October to run a 32-metre wheel on the Queens Wharf Breastworks near the Downtown Ferry Terminal. It would carry up to 144 people in 24 gondolas from 10am to 10pm.
The attraction is one of the options being explored by the city agency Tātaki Auckland Unlimited as it opens the Central Wharves to the public. Its director of destination, Annie Dundas, said the wheel could open in December but still needed consents and approvals.
Viv Beck, chief executive of the business group Heart of the City, welcomed the idea as a draw for visitors and locals.
