Lydia Ko denies giving golf lessons to South Korea’s first lady

·

New Zealand golfer Dame Lydia Ko has denied claims that she gave private golf lessons to South Korea's first lady, Kim Hea Kyung, on the day a fire in Seoul injured several people, 1News reports.

The claim was made in a Facebook post on Monday by Joo Jin-woo of the opposition People Power Party, who named Ko as the golfer involved, according to the Korea JoongAng Daily. Ms Kim is married to President Lee Jae Myung.

Ko said on Instagram that the reports were untrue, that she had been at a sponsor's event on the date in question, and that she may take legal action over false claims that damage her reputation.

The Korea Times reported that the ruling party plans legal action against Mr Joo. Ko is due to play in Malaysia this week.
