Truck drivers have blocked roads in Oaxaca, central Mexico and Veracruz on Monday in protest at insecurity on highways, high tolls and a planned cut to a tax incentive, Mexico News Daily reports.
Most of the blockades were partial, but the motorway between Tehuacán and Oaxaca was reported closed in both directions. National trucking associations said the indefinite strike could involve up to a million lorries and warned of possible disruption to supplies of goods and fuel.
Drivers say they pay heavy taxes and private toll charges but get poor and dangerous roads in return. They have urged President Claudia Sheinbaum to review a 2027 budget proposal that would lower the revenue limit for companies to qualify for a highway toll tax credit from 300 million to 250 million pesos.
