Benjamin Netanyahu has stepped up warnings about Iran and reportedly pressed Israel's military to act against it, as his coalition narrowly trails in polls before Tuesday's election, The Guardian reports.
Israel's Channel 12 reported that the prime minister and the chief of staff, Lt Gen Eyal Zamir, clashed over a directive that could have risked an immediate conflict with Iran. Mr Netanyahu denied the report, and the defence ministry said it had no plans for operations against Iran. The military said its decisions were based only on security and professional considerations.
CNN reported on Monday that Mr Netanyahu had tried in recent weeks to persuade Donald Trump to renew strikes on Iran, and that Mr Trump had ruled this out until next week's US congressional elections.
Mr Netanyahu also posted an AI-generated image of a nuclear blast over Tel Aviv, urging voters to back him.
