General Fannie Masemola returned to work as South Africa's National Police Commissioner on Monday after six months' suspension, once prosecutors had dropped corruption charges against him, AllAfrica reports.
President Cyril Ramaphosa lifted the suspension on 16 October. Masemola, 62, was suspended in April after being charged under the Public Finance Management Act over a R360 million police health services tender awarded to Medicare24, a company linked to businessman Vusimuzi "Cat" Matlala. He was one of 13 officials charged and always denied wrongdoing. The charges were withdrawn in September after prosecutors found no reasonable prospect of a conviction.
He returns with five months of his term left, as the Madlanga Commission hears claims that anti-corruption investigators pursued senior officers without following proper procedures.
