Sri Lanka chase 430 to beat England despite Harry Brook’s record double century

·

Sri Lanka have chased down 430 to beat England in a one-day international, despite the England captain Harry Brook scoring the fastest double century in the format's history, ABC News reports.

Brook reached 200 in 114 balls, beating the previous record of 117 held by India's Shubman Gill, and finished on 202, the highest ODI score by an England player. England posted 429 for four. Sri Lanka replied with Pavan Rathnayake making 130, and Janith Liyanage hit a six off the penultimate ball to win with two wickets to spare.

It is the second-highest successful chase in ODI history, behind South Africa's 435 against Australia in 2006. The defeat leaves England bottom of the standings after two losses, and Brook said they must win their next two matches to reach the final in Lahore.
