The World Health Organization has warned that the Ebola outbreak which began in the Democratic Republic of Congo is becoming more complex, with active or recent cases of the Bundibugyo strain now in Congo, Kenya and Nigeria, Al Jazeera reports.
The outbreak, declared in mid-May, has killed more than 4,000 people in Congo. Uganda had cases earlier in the year but has since been declared free of the disease. Nigeria, the most populous country affected, confirmed its first case on Tuesday.
Health officials are investigating where that patient, the Ugandan-born wife of a Swiss diplomat in Abuja, was infected. Africa CDC said she and Kenya's first patient both left Entebbe airport on 3 October and that a possible encounter is being examined. The WHO said it had no confirmed information that she visited Congo, while Ugandan officials rejected suggestions she caught the virus in Uganda.
