Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has welcomed the Democrats' victory in the US midterm elections, saying at a press conference with Czech prime minister Andrej Babiš that "democracy won in America", Notes from Poland reports. Tusk said he hoped the outcome would help stabilise the situation in Central and Eastern Europe, and urged President Donald Trump to look for compromise rather than govern through vetoes.
Members of Tusk's pro-EU coalition, which has at times clashed with Washington over Russia, Ukraine and Greenland, also welcomed the result. Zbigniew Konwiński, who leads the Civic Coalition group in parliament, said a stronger Democratic Party was better for Poland. The reaction from the right-wing opposition and from the office of President Karol Nawrocki, an ally of Trump, was more restrained, the outlet said.
