Ukraine has carried out a missile attack on the Russian city of Oryol, and Ukrainian monitoring channels say the target may have been the Proton factory, which makes optical and electronic components for military use, Meduza reports.
A missile alert was declared across the Oryol region at around 5pm local time on Friday. Local Telegram channels reported at least four explosions in the city, followed by heavy smoke and emergency vehicles. Preliminary reports from the Ukrainian monitors said British-made Storm Shadow cruise missiles were used.
One channel said the plant's parts go into Russian cruise and ballistic missiles and the Pantsir air defence system. The regional governor, Andrey Klychkov, said Ukraine had struck a civilian business in the city's Sovetsky district. There was no clear information on casualties or the extent of the damage.
