US Democratic congressional nominee Brad Lander says he has been released from Israeli military custody with a warning, hours after being detained in the occupied West Bank, Al Jazeera reports.
Lander, a former New York City comptroller, wrote on X that he believed he was let go because of his public profile. He said several dozen others, including rabbis and international volunteers, were still being held, and called for their release.
According to the Israeli group Rabbis for Human Rights, about 80 volunteers from the US, Israel, Britain, Canada and the Palestinian territories were detained near the village of Nahalin, close to Bethlehem, while helping Palestinian farmers pick olives. Israeli forces told them they were in a closed military zone and took them to a police station. Israel had not commented.
