Nigeria's House of Representatives has called on the government to release all outstanding funds allocated to health agencies so they can strengthen the country's Ebola response, Premium Times reports.
The motion, passed on Wednesday, followed confirmation that a woman who had recently travelled from Uganda tested positive for the virus in Abuja. She is being treated in isolation at a private hospital, and health officials have identified 44 close contacts, including health workers, patients, carers and fellow travellers, who are being monitored.
The House also urged federal and state health bodies and private providers to step up surveillance to stop the disease spreading. Amobi Ogah, the Labour Party MP for Abia who sponsored the motion, warned that delays in testing, isolation and contact tracing could raise the risk of transmission.
