Toronto Crime Stoppers has stopped accepting tips by phone, online or through its app after a breach at its software provider exposed submissions that may contain identifying details, Global News reports.
The organisation's chair, Sean Sportun, said 176,859 tips sent between January 2022 and November 2025 were affected when hackers stole data in March from P3, a platform run by Navigate360. About 12,400 may include personal details, and the provider has passed on a list of nearly 15,000 names found in the stolen data without saying who they belong to.
Sportun said the provider had repeatedly assured the charity its system was secure and had not handed over the text of the stolen tips despite legal requests. He asked people to hold off on tips until safer options exist and to call 911 in emergencies. Navigate360 did not immediately respond to Global News.
