US embassies in 12 Middle Eastern countries, including Israel, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Lebanon, Qatar, the UAE, Yemen and Iran, issued matching security alerts on Monday urging Americans to be extra vigilant, Euronews reports. The warnings cite the risk of military escalation involving Iran and Yemen's Houthis and tell travellers to expect possible flight cancellations, airspace closures and other disruption.
The alerts say the hostilities could spread quickly beyond the area where they began and advise US citizens to draw up contingency plans in advance. They also warn that Iran and groups aligned with it could target US businesses and other American interests elsewhere in the world.
