China's foreign minister Wang Yi met a visiting North Korean delegation in Beijing on Thursday, as the two countries step up contacts following Kim Jong-un's recent trip across the border, the South China Morning Post reports. The delegation was led by Kim Song-nam, head of the international affairs department of North Korea's ruling Workers' Party.
Wang said China was ready to work with Pyongyang to implement the consensus reached by the two countries' leaders and to take relations to a deeper and more substantive level. Both sides pledged greater cooperation. The meeting follows Kim Jong-un's visit to the Chinese border city of Dandong, which the paper describes as part of a renewed effort by the two neighbours to strengthen their relationship.
