Finns Party sets out €8bn cuts plan ahead of Finnish election

·

The Finns Party has published a plan for €8bn of spending cuts over the next parliamentary term, plus about €1bn in other measures including new taxes, Yle News reports.

The party said the package was designed to meet the debt brake agreed by most parties in parliament earlier this year, though real savings will be settled in coalition talks after next April's election. The cuts would fall on immigration, social security, the wellbeing services counties and development aid, which would end altogether. Pensions under €2,000 a month would be protected, while larger pensions would face an index brake from 2028 to 2031.

The party also proposes a sugar tax, a higher tax on data centres, abolishing the innovation fund Sitra and cutting €200m from the public broadcaster Yle. Its leader, Riikka Purra, said immigration would be tackled mainly through social security reform. Ukraine support is unaffected.
