Malaysia's High Court has temporarily stayed the suspension and deregistration of the opposition coalition Perikatan Nasional (PN), allowing it to contest next month's Melaka state election under its own name and symbol, CNA reports.
Justice Azizan Md Arshad said extraordinary circumstances justified the stay, which holds while the coalition pursues a judicial review of the Registrar of Societies' decision. The ruling came nine days before nominations close for the 14 November poll.
Analysts told CNA the legal win does little to resolve deep divisions between PN's main parties, former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin's Bersatu and the Islamist party PAS, which have increasingly campaigned separately.
PAS has grown closer to UMNO, and in Melaka the UMNO-led Barisan Nasional and PAS have already agreed a seat-sharing deal, a sign of shifting alliances ahead of the next general election.
